A fitness math equation?
Alright. I’m 221-ish. 5′9. Overweight (go to most BMI things and it’ll tell you I’m obese. Muscle>fat and while I’m not super muscular, I’m not exactly just blubber, either.
), obviously. Blood pressure is good, I drink 1/2 gal-1 gal of water a day, vegetarian, etc. If not for the weight, I’d be happy little poster child type for most health establishments.
So. Here’s the question:
I’m in the cardio room right now, doing 5.5 miles on a bike, 1 mile on the treadmill for 1 hour per day, 5x a week (so, 32.5 miles per week). Losing somewhere around 320 calories or so. I drink about 32 oz of water during said exercise. From past catalogging, I usually only eat about 1500 calories a day (approximately) and it’s a rarity that I eat out.
How long would it take me to drop weight and condition myself at this pace? Obviously I’ll be adding weight exercises somewhere in there, but not quite yet-I have an orientation set up for tuesday.
Anyone care to try to figure this one out?
Let’s assume that your body needs about 1800 calories a day to maintain. It’s probably a little higher than that but we’ll use 1800, and we’ll pretend you are burning 300 just to make math easier.
You have a 2100 calorie weekly deficit and you are burning 1500 for a total of 3600 a week. That’s just over a pound per week. Your conditioning will improve very quickly and the sad part of that is as you become more fit you will require more effort to burn the same number of calories. It’s all good though.
