British Army Fitness

british army fitness
Hi? I will be attending the British army’s selection & recruiting process soon, I just wanted to ask how the?

process is like i.e what are the minimum physical fitness requirements to pass the tests & what else do they do there besides the physical fitness tests?( i’ll be joining artillery logistics hopefully) Also do the minimum fitness requirements vary with age or are they constant?

Physically – At selection – 0.5 mile (800m) warm up, 1.5 mile (2.4km) run, the PSS(R), which includes heaves, static lift (up to 55kg), back extension and a dynamic lift. Also a jerry can test, 2 jerry can’s weighing 20 kg in each hand, walk 150m at a 7.5 m per 5 second pace.

However most AFCO’s put you on a pre-selection course, which usually includes the 2.4km run + warm up, heaves, press-ups and sit-ups.

Pass varies with what job choice you want. However aim for around 10.30 minutes on the 2.4km run. Also aim to do the whole jerry can test its not hard, a few heaves, get 55kg on the static lift, and 100% effort on the back extension and dynamic lift. For press-ups , 45 in 2 mins is a pass and sit ups 55 in 2 mins. Might not be 100% accurate but close enough, also bear in mind that this is for minimum fitness, at basic you will be told to do a lot harder things, get your fitness higher than this.

Other things include, BARB test (psychometric test), Numeracy and literacy test. At selection, an icebreaker – speak about yourself for two minutes, a 3-part grenade test, a TST (maths) test if its required for your job. Interviews. That’s a jist of it, they maybe things I have forgotten.
